Memorandum of Support
The Middle Class Action Project
Staten Island, NY
The Middle Class Action Project, which is fighting to protect and resuscitate the American middle class decimated by more than 30 years of outsourcing of good-paying manufacturing jobs, is proud to support The New York State Buy American Act, S7206/A9521, which will create a strong preference in procurement laws for American made steel and iron.
We feel this bill is particularly important in light of the MTA’s decision to outsource the refurbishment of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and the Staten Island Expressway to Chinese companies. The MTA’s decision, which we would have objected to at any time, is especially unconscionable given this country’s sustained high unemployment since the 2008 financial crisis.
New York State taxpayer money should be used to support American jobs. We feel these bills could have gone further to strengthen manufacturing in New York State specifically but this is a good start. As always we at The Middle Class Action Project believe that strong middle class communities start with good jobs. These bills will allow for good jobs to stay and perhaps return to the United States of America. The Middle Class Action Project is pleased to see that locally here in Staten Island that Senator Diane Savino and Assemblymembers Matthew Titone and Michael Cusick are co-sponsors of these bills respectively. Please lend your support and contact your state representatives in The Senate and Assembly today.
